Congratulations Amanda!

A round of applause for Master Amanda who completed her M.Sc. exit seminar on desulfurative cross-coupling of thioglycosides! Your hard work has set a high bar for excellence in our lab. Well done!*pictured is Amanda's pet snake Ruby 🐍

Congratulations to Alex on publishing in ACS Chemical Biology!

Our new paper presents how N-azidoacetylglucosamine (GlcNAz) can be incorporated into bacterial peptidoglycan for metabolic labeling in Escherichia coli. By the expression of NahK in E. coli, the cytosolic production of UDP-GlcNAz and preferential incorporation into peptidoglycan (PGN) over other sites like poly-β-1,6-N-acetylglucosamine (PNAG), lipopolysaccharide (LPS), or enterobacterial common antigen (ECA) was revealed, providing insights for future development of carbohydrate-based... view

Cheers to Nicole on publishing in ACS Bioconjugate Chemistry!

See our recent publication (starred with Editor's Choice⭐) on designing and implementing the first mass cytometry ligands compatible with the HaloTag system. Employing "click"-amenable HaloTag warheads conjugated metal-chelating polymers, we demonstrated successful labelling of HEK293T cells. https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.bioconjchem.3c00434

Congratulations Daniel and Hunter for getting your work accepted to ACS Bioconjugate Chemistry!

Our newest publication offers a promising addition to the toolbox of bioorthogonal reactions in chemical biology! We present a cascade reaction between N-allylglyoxylamide and N-alkylhydroxylamine, catalyzed by 5-methoxyanthranilic acid, combining the reactivity of nitrones with the simplicity of aldehydes, demonstrating bioorthogonality in complex cell lysates and on the surface of HEK293 cells. https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.... view

🌲O Coatmas Tree🌲

As the holidays approach, the Nitz group is donning up with festivity ❄️ We present to you... The Coatmas Tree! Transforming perished lab coats into a festive decoration, we are embracing the holiday cheer with a dash of science and sustainability.

Congratulations Miya!

We are proud to announce that Miya successfully completed her M.Sc. exit seminar! Miya has been with us since her fourth year of undergrad, exploring NahK-mediated metabolic oligosaccharide engineering with N-azidoacetylglucosamine derivatives in E. coli. We wish her the best of luck as she embarks on the next chapter of her academic journey, pursuing a PhD in Denmark!

Best of luck, Helen!

Today was Helen's last day of working with us. Since joining the lab in 2021, she worked on the development of tellurium-based mitochondrial probes for mass cytometry. She gave her MSc exit seminar in April 2023, then stayed with us for a little longer as a research associate to wrap up her work. Thanks Helen, for always being helpful and supportive. We all (Prof Nitz, the members, and the Biotage) will miss you very much!!!
