Research

Over the last century, impressive developments in organic chemistry have expanded the “tool box” of synthetic procedures available for the production of key molecules in our every day lives, including medicines, plastics, cosmetics, food, etc. Our needs are now shifting towards the development of more efficient processes, from both an environmental and economic point of view, for the preparation of target compounds. Indeed, sustainability has become a central theme – and challenge – in the chemical industry as highlighted by numerous green chemistry initiatives.

Research in the Rousseaux group revolves around key strategic areas that can make fundamental contributions to sustainable organic synthesis. This includes for example the design of new catalysts and the development of transformations involving naturally abundant chemical feedstocks. Our approach involves combinations of organometallic chemistry, organic synthesis and supramolecular chemistry. For specific project examples, please contact Sophie.
