Permeation oven used for airborne calibrations Air quality in Utah

Back in 2017, the group had the chance to collaborate with colleagues at NOAA, U Utah and U Washington to measure air pollution over the Salt Lake region in the winter. A recent publication led by Carrie Womack (https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.est.2c05376) focuses on the impact of halogen emissions from the U.S. Magnesium facility and their impact on local air quality. This study has spurred some proposed changes to legislation, including potential new regulations on halogen emissions. And our permeation over got its three seconds of fame in a Fox News story!https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/study-pinpoints-magnesium-plant...https://www.fox13now.com/news/great-salt-lake-collaborative/a-major-air-...

Timmins 2022!

Last week, our own Prof. Jen Murphy and Mark Panas traveled to Timmins, ON, where they helped coordinate the first stratospheric balloon launch of the Canadian Space Agency's Strato-Science 2022 campaign. This project uses laser absorption spectroscopy to obtain reliable measurements of greenhouse gases. Mark and Jen are expecting useful data from the successful balloon voyage, and their efforts were also featured in the Timmins Daily Press!
