A generalized Langevin equation, based on a pseudo-Liouville representation of hard-sphere dynamics, is used to examine the kinetic energy relaxation rate coefficient, kεlunate, of a. spherical brownian particle in a dilute gas. In the limit of a large and massive test particle, we find kεlunate = 2ξs/m1, where εlunates is the Stokes' law friction and m1 is the mass of the brownian particle. © 1982.
