Abstract:

A microscopic study of the total concentration fluctuations of the dilute reacting species in a ternary mixture is presented. A Fokker-Planck description of the concentration fluctuations of the molecules in specified internal states is used and the necessary matrix elements are evaluated by a variational method. Expressions for the contribution of these fluctuations to the light scattering spectrum are presented along with expressions for the nonequilibrium corrections to the rate coefficient which depend on frequency and wavenumber. The general features of the results are illustrated by considering specific stochastic models of chemically reacting fluids.
